Frequently Asked Questions

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is used to help improve wrinkles, loose skin and "bags" in the upper and lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty can help you regain a youthful appearance to the face, making the eyes appear brighter and more refreshed. The surgery is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia at the Auburn Surgery Center. During the consultation, your physician will explain the surgery as well as possible risks and complications and take before photos for your medical record. We recommend you bring a list of any questions or concerns to your consultation.

During the procedure, excess skin and protruding pockets of fat are removed from the upper and/or lower eyelids. In some cases, upper blepharoplasty can even help you see better.

How is blepharoplasty performed?
A tiny incision is made along the natural lines of your eyelids to remove the excess fat, skin and muscle. The skin is then tightened and closed with fine sutures.

How much does blepharoplasty cost?
Upper eyelid blepharoplasty starts at $2,000,* lower eyelid blepharoplasty starts at $3,300,* and both upper and lower blepharoplasty starts at $5,000*. These fees includes: physician fee, anesthesia fee, facility fee and 12 months of office visits.

Is there a consultation fee?
Yes, the consultation fee is $100. However, if you have approved financing with our financing company OR pay the 20% scheduling deposit and schedule the surgery at your consultation to take place in the next 30 days, we will waive this fee. If you do not schedule at the consultation, we will deduct the $100 off of the price of the procedure as long as you have the surgery within 30 days of the consultation.

Who is the best candidate for blepharoplasty?
Women and men who: are over the age of 18; are in good health; do not smoke; have excess eyelid skin and want a subtle smoothing effect around their eyes.

What is the recovery period blepharoplasty?
The recovery time varies for each patient. However, many patients return to nonstrenuous work within 1-2 weeks. Bruising and swelling typically diminishes within a couple of weeks. Other individual restrictions and recovery expectations will be discussed during your consultation.

What type of scars can I expect with blepharoplasty?
Scars are nearly invisible as they blend into the natural lines around your eyes. The final appearance of the scars is determined by your body’s own wound healing capabilities.

Does the surgery have to be paid for up front or do you offer a payment plan?
Yes, all cosmetic surgeries must be paid for in full by the day BEFORE surgery. However, we offer a wonderful financing option with Healthpay Finance. Applying is quick and easy and can be done by phone or online. Simply call 1-877-559-5050 or visit www.capitalonehealthcarefinance.com and leave the rest to us.

Will my insurance cover blepharoplasty?
Some insurance companies will cover upper eyelid blepharoplasty if you fail a visual field study by your eye doctor. You will need to check with your insurance company to see if blepharoplasty is a covered procedure with your plan. However, if you have Medicare you will need to discuss insurance policies with our office staff at your consultation.
