A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is used to help tighten stretched abdominal skin, correct lower abdominal bulging, and to correct weakened abdominal muscles. The surgery is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia at the Auburn Surgery Center. During the consultation, your physician will explain the surgery as well as possible risks and complications and take before photos for your medical record. We recommend you bring a list of any questions or concerns to your consultation.

How is abdominoplasty performed?
During the procedure, an incision is made at the bikini line from hip to hip, after which your doctor will remove any excess skin between the pubic area and the belly button. To tighten the contour of the abdomen, your doctor takes the skin on the upper part of the abdomen and stretches it downward. The belly button is then repositioned to its normal position. If the abdominal muscles are loose, the surgeon can also tighten these muscles during the procedure by uniting the muscle and tissue and stitching them together. Lastly, the incisions are carefully stitched closed and a dressing is applied.
Should I have a full or mini tummy tuck?
If your abdominal fullness and loose skin are confined to the area below the belly button, you may be a candidate for a mini abdominoplasty, which has a shorter incision and limits the tightening to the lower abdomen. If the fullness and skin laxity involve your entire abdomen, then a full abdominoplasty is most likely needed to help you achieve your desired results. However, most people require the full abdominoplasty. A consultation with you and your doctor will determine which method is right for you.
A tummy tuck is not a substitute for weight loss or an appropriate exercise program. Although the results of a tummy tuck are technically permanent, the positive outcome can be greatly diminished by significant fluctuations in weight. For this reason, individuals who are planning substantial weight loss or women who may be considering future pregnancies are advised to postpone a tummy tuck.
How much does a tummy tuck cost?
There are 3 different types of tummy tucks: mini tummy tucks start at $3,800*, formal tummy tucks start at $4,700*, formal tummy tucks with muscle tightening start at $5,800*, and high lateral tension abdominoplasty starts at $6,500*. Your physician will decide which one you are a candidate for. These fees include: physician fee, anesthesia fee, facility fee and 12 months of office visits.
Is there a consultation fee?
Yes, the consultation fee is $100. However, if you have approved financing with our financing company OR pay the 20% scheduling deposit and schedule the surgery at your consultation to take place in the next 30 days, we will waive this fee. If you do not schedule at the consultation, we will deduct the $100 off of the price of the procedure as long as you have the surgery within 30 days of the consultation.
Who is the best candidate for a tummy tuck?
Women and men who: are over the age of 18; do not smoke; have excess abdominal fat and/or skin possibly due to pregnancy or excessive weight loss; and are within approximately 15 pounds of their goal weight. Abdominoplasty is not for weight reduction or control; it is for body shaping and body contouring.
What is the recovery period for a tummy tuck?
The recovery time varies for each patient. However, many patients return to nonstrenuous work within 2-3 weeks. You will have drains in place for approximately 1-3 weeks and will be unable to stand up straight for about a week. You will be unable to swim, use hot tubs, or take tub baths for approximately 3 weeks or until sutures are removed. Other individual restrictions and recovery expectations will be discussed during your consultation.
What type of scars can I expect with a tummy tuck?
An incision will be made above the pubic line from hip to hip and also around the belly button. Every attempt will be made to keep the scar inside your swimsuit lines. The scars are permanent but will fade over time. However, the final appearance of the scars is determined by your body’s own wound healing capabilities.
Does the surgery have to be paid for up front or do you offer a payment plan?
