Frequently Asked Questions
Liposuction is for body shaping and contouring stubborn areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. The surgery is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia at the Auburn Surgery Center. During the consultation, your physician will: explain the surgery as well as possible risks and complications and take before photos for your medical record. We recommend you bring a list of any questions or concerns to your consultation.
What is liposuction?
Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity or a substitute for proper diet and exercise. It is also not an effective treatment for cellulite, the dimpled skin that typically appears on the thighs, hips and buttocks.
Liposuction can, however, permanently reshape body contours where excess fat deposits create areas that are disproportionately large in an otherwise balanced figure.
How is liposuction performed?
Liposuction is a safe procedure with a low complication rate. The procedure involves a small incision and inserting a hollow tube, called a cannula. Fluid may be added to reduce bleeding and discomfort. Using a back and forth motion with the cannula, excess fat is suctioned and collected in a canister where it is measured. Post-operative recovery is relatively quick, but bruising and swelling can remain for 2-4 weeks. If following surgery, you maintain a healthy lifestyle (including a sensible diet), perform moderate exercise and maintain your weight, excellent long-term results are likely.
How much does liposuction cost?
Liposuction starts at $2,700* for one area and goes up approximately $1,000 for each additional area. This fee includes: physician fee, anesthesia fee, facility fee, garment fee, and 12 months of office visits.
Is there a consultation fee?
Yes, the consultation fee is $100. However, if you have approved financing with our financing company OR pay the 20% scheduling deposit and schedule the surgery at your consultation to take place in the next 30 days, we will waive this fee. If you do not schedule at the consultation, we will deduct the $100 off of the price of the procedure as long as you have the surgery within 30 days of the consultation.
Who is the best candidate for liposuction?
Women and men who: are over the age of 18; have areas of excess fat that will not respond to diet and exercise; and are within 10-15 pounds of their goal weight. Liposuction is not for weight reduction or control; it is for body shaping and body contouring.
What is the recovery period for liposuction?
The recovery time varies for each patient. However, many patients return to nonstrenuous work within a week. You will be required to wear a compression garment for 3 weeks after surgery. You will be unable to swim, use hot tubs, or take tub baths for approximately 2 weeks or until sutures are removed. Bruising and swelling may last for up to 6 weeks. Other individual restrictions and recovery expectations will be discussed during your consultation.
Are the results of liposuction permanent?
Once the fat is removed, it should not come back. However, liposuction will not keep you from gaining weight due to lack of exercise and an unhealthy diet. Therefore, to keep your post-surgical results, you should try to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Does the surgery have to be paid for up front or do you offer a payment plan?
Yes, all cosmetic surgeries must be paid for in full by the day BEFORE surgery. For your convenience, we offer a wonderful financing option through CosmetiCredit.
