Frequently Asked Questions

Breast augmentation helps women achieve larger, firmer breasts through the insertion of breast implants. The surgery is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia at the Auburn Surgery Center. "The Perfect Breast" means something different to each person; during your consultation with Dr. Tobin or Dr. Tsao-Wu they will listen closely as you describe the breast size and contour you believe to be your perfect fit. Your physician will: explain the surgery, options and possible risks and complications; have you look through a photo book; try on "sizer implants;" and take before photos for your medical record. We recommend you bring a list of any questions or concerns to your consultation.

How is breast augmentation performed?
During the procedure, a small incision is placed either underneath the breast just above the crease or around the lower edge of the areola. A saline (or gel implant if you are a candidate) is placed either behind the breast tissue or under the muscle depending on the size, contour desired and the patient’s preference. The doctor will work with you to determine which size, shape and type of implant is ideal for your body. The procedure may take from 1 to 2 hours. You can be up and about within a day, but strenuous activity and heavy lifting should be avoided for approximately 3 to 6 weeks. Your doctor will give you more specific restriction information during your consult.

How much does a breast augmentation cost?
Our breast augmentations start at $3,995* and include: physician fee, facility fee, anesthesia fee, implant fee, garment fee, and 12 months of office visits. This fee is quoted for round, saline filled implants and an inframammary (beneath the breast) incision. The price will increase if shaped implants or gel implants are chosen, if a periareolar (around the nipple) incision is chosen, or if extra time in the operating room will be required.

Does the price change if I go under or above the muscle or with the size I choose?
No, the price is only affected by the above factors.

Is there a consultation fee?
Yes, the consultation fee is $100. However, if you have approved financing with our financing company OR pay the 20% scheduling deposit and schedule the surgery at your consultation to take place in the next 30 days, we will waive this fee. If you do not schedule at the consultation, we will deduct the $100 off of the price of the procedure as long as you have the surgery within 30 days of the consultation.

Who is the best candidate for a breast augmentation?
Women who are over the age of 18 and are not satisfied with the breast size and/or shape. This can include women whose breasts never developed to a satisfactory size with puberty or who have lost considerable amounts of weight including post-pregnancy weight loss.

What is the recovery period for breast augmentation?
The recovery time varies for each woman. However, many women return to nonstrenuous work within 3-7 days. You will be unable to swim, use hot tubs, or take tub baths for 2 – 3 weeks or until sutures are removed. You will not be able to lift anything heavier than 3-5 pounds for the first week after surgery and then nothing heavier than 15 pounds for two more weeks. Other individual restrictions and recovery expectations will be discussed during your consultation.

What size will I be after breast augmentation?
We do not focus on bra or cup sizes in our practice because every implant will look different in every woman. It is virtually impossible to predict what size a certain implant will make you. Our surgeons recommend you let the way you look and feel with our "sizer implants" be your guide instead of a specific bra or cup size.

Does the surgery have to be paid for up front or do you offer a payment plan?
Yes, all cosmetic surgeries must be paid for in full by the day BEFORE surgery. For your convenience, we offer a wonderful financing option through CapitalOne Healthcare Finance. Applying is quick and easy and can be done by phone or online. Simply call 1-877-559-5050 or visit their website and leave the rest to us.

Will my insurance cover a breast augmentation?
No, we do not accept insurance for breast augmentations or any cosmetic surgeries.

*Prices are subject to change. Patients are given an exact surgical cost at their consultation.
